People we’ve encountered and places we’ve visited merge with our deepest desires and fears, blurring the boundaries between reality and projection. Repeated gestures allow the self -or individual presence (1.)- to temporarily depart from the body, making space for new ways of inhabiting it. It draws on Tarantism, a dance-based exorcism once performed to heal the psychotic symptoms supposedly caused by a tarantula’s bite. The piece intertwines the psychic and physical aspects of illness, portraying healing as a multidimensional and unpredictable process. 1. The film draws on the visual archive of the Committee Lasciateci Respirare, an independent group operating against the activity of three cement plants in Monselice, the artist’s hometown. The work explores how growing up in a politically and environmentally polluted area shaped Miazzi’s body and conscience. Featuring footage of a protest held in1996 against the use of tires as industrial fuel, the film weaves personal and collective histories, as the artist’s relatives— also founding members of the Committee—appear throughout.
